Posting comments, articles, perspectives and any type of editorial comments is the way to gain search engine recognition on Google.  One way to accomplish this is to post to Google Groups.  Googe Groups is a free service whereby anyone can setup their own group and monitor the progress on the search engines.  I have found much flexibility and functionality by using Google Groups as part of my normal online presentations for my seo clients.
